My Favorite Desserts in Salt Lake City, Utah
I rarely venture into Salt Lake City without stopping for some kind of treat. I like a variety of desserts and I like high quality ones, at that. From ice cream to cupcakes, and macarons to cookies, I like it all!
But I am very selective when it comes to quality. My brother calls me picky; I say I’m a food snob. Neither of these sound very flattering but the point is, I have some great recommendations for you.
So, here are my five must-try desserts in Salt Lake City. I will be adding to this list of favorites in the future. If you have tried any of these desserts, let us know!
What
should be on this list that is not here, yet? What is your favorite type of
dessert? Share in the comment section at the end of this post!
GOURMANDISE THE BAKERY
250 S 300 E, Salt Lake
City, UT 84111
We love the baba au rum! It's a cake like pastry flavored with rum and filled with custard and one of my favorite desserts from this bakery. We also enjoy the big, high-quality eclairs and the mango tart.
Gourmandise is also my favorite place to get macarons. They had the perfect texture and simple, natural flavors.
You can
order a slice of any cake too. I recommend the Strawberry Chantilly Cake.
RUBYSNAP FRESH
COOKIES
770 S 300 W, Salt Lake
City, UT 84101
This is a bakery that sells only cookies and really good ones at that! Each cookie has a cute pin-up girl name and all are made daily from scratch with unique textures and flavor.
I don’t have just one favorite, but I do love the Vivianna cookie. It’s loaded with mango and dark chocolate!
The Penelope is a go-to as well. It may be the best peanut butter cookie I have ever had, plus it’s dipped in rich chocolate!
And the Lola . . . How can I ever properly describe this cookie? It’s lemon flavored, shortbread-like texture, with a candied lemon slice on top.
If you go here to get
cookies, get me one too! Or, you know, six . . .
KOI D BAR
ROLLED ICE CREAM
655 S State St, Salt Lake City, UT 84111
I first heard about rolled ice cream from a coworker a few years ago. He described it as the freshest ice cream he had ever had and I thought, "Uh, ice cream is frozen. How could it be fresh?
I was mistaken. This stuff is pricier that Coldstone but even better. The cream and mix-ins are spread right on the cold plate to freeze and then it's all scraped up into pretty little rolls and topped with candy such as cookie pieces or gummy bears.
It may
not sound all that special, but rolled ice cream is, indeed, the freshest I
have had and so fun to eat!
SWEET
TOOTH FAIRY CUPCAKES
1334 Foothill Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84108
The thing I love about cupcakes is that there are so many different combinations that can be made with them. There are endless possibilities of flavors in the cake, filling, frosting, and toppings. I love the variety and all the different textures you can experience in each bite.
I like Sweet Tooth Fairy for this reason as well as the quality of their desserts. You can find this cute bakery in a strip mall just around the corner from the Hogle Zoo.
Their cupcakes are so good! The cake is always super moist and dense, and the flavors are great. My favorites are the keylime and raspberry-mango-coconut cupcakes. Cookies and cream, chocolate peanut butter cup, and cookie dough are also great flavors.
Stop by on your next trip to the zoo and see if you can pick just one cupcake go try.
DOLCETTI GELATO
902 E 900 S, Salt Lake
City, UT 84105
This is one of the few places in SLC where you can get gelato. The first time I came here was on my break from climbing trees in the city for work. It was so hot that day but the creamy, rich gelato contrasted so beautifully against the summer heat. I ordered blueberry-basil gelato and it still my favorite flavor!
They also have flavors like pistachio, lemon, chocolate, raspberry, and sometimes strawberry balsamic! If you love ice cream, you will love gelato. It's richer and a little scoop is all you need to satisfy.
They sell macarons here too, but they are not very good. Best to stick with Gourmandise for those fancy French cookies.
